Chemicals can be extremely dangerous substances for human beings to come in contact with and especially consume, due to this fact they come with plenty of warnings and details stating the facts about the chemicals and what to do if you come in contact with it. All of this information is stored on the Chemical Label and is mandatory that they are included when sold to the public.
Although some chemicals like household cleaning products are not to dangerous unless inhaled or get in your eyes and mouth, they still present risks and still have informative labels, labels often contain symbols to show the hazard presented (flammable is an example).
However on industrial chemicals you will find many different symbols printed upon the Chemical Labels, below are some of the symbols you may encounter (they are all signs or symbols:
o Toxic - a skull and bones
o Radiation - a yellow background with a black circle surrounded by the black pie shaped icons
o Caution - an orange triangle with a black exclamation mark
o Warning - a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark
o Biohazard - quite complex to explain but many of you will know what this is.
There are many other signs and symbols that can be printed on the labels, the above are just some of the most common ones.
The label will be attached to the product by means of an adhesive backing; this keeps the label firmly in place. They are often bright and vivid this helps to gain the users attention and encourages them to read its contents.
